To all Kawartha Woodturners Guild Members: Thanks to all of you who took part in our Annual Meeting and Town Hall Meeting at the beginning of September. We appreciated your input and will use it to guide us moving forward. Thanks to John Moffat for handling the coffee break. Our next meeting will be held in the shop at St. Peter’s High School on Tuesday, October 4 at 7:00 pm. Morris Young will be demonstrating how to turn and finish flowers (I am personally looking forward to this one very much!). Lawrence Julian is taking care of the coffee break for this meeting – many thanks. We are scheduled to place a display of KWG members’ works in the display case in the entry of the Peterborough Public Library for the week of October 10 – 17th. The display will be put into the display case starting at noon on Monday, October 10th at noon. Please let me know if you are interested in participating in this display. Our display is one of the most popular displays throughout the year at the library and generates many compliments. Don’t forget to turn your ornaments for the Festival of Trees! Not only does this represent the highest profile for our Guild in the community, but Janna has that great Easy Finisher tool as a prize for one of the contributors of ornaments. The ornaments are needed by our November meeting as set up for the tree is in late November. We continue to look at new locations for the Guild. Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School is not opening up any rentals for the coming year, but other opportunities may come from the Public School Board. We have begun discussions with the Canadian Canoe Museum, particularly with regard to the warehouse at the rear of the property. At this point, they are just discussion, and any move will involve a lot of construction work on the part of the Guild, but it could result in a great location. We will keep you up-to-date on the discussions. In the meantime, we will continue to meet at St. Peter’s until further notice. The movement of equipment makes it hard for us to consider conducting Hands-On instruction, but we will look at how we might do it. Changes are happening at the Board level. Art Deboo, as Past President and a Board member, has found it increasingly difficult to make the Board meetings due to the distance he has to travel and has resigned his position as a Board member – he still remains as Past President. We have accepted his resignation, but will continue to rely on him for guidance and advice. In our current position, we need a full Board to carry out our responsibilities and will appoint a member of the Guild to serve as an additional Director for the next two years. In addition, Bill Hurst has stepped down as Treasurer due to health concerns. Larry Sidler is currently filling in, but a new Treasurer is needed as soon as possible. Please consider taking on one of these two positions. The Guild needs your help as we work our way through our relocation and adjustment. Talk to me or anyone of our Board members (Jim Knight, Charles Murphy, John Moffat, Larry Sidler, David Prescott and Gary Stevenson) about joining the Board. I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday! If you have not already done so, please renew your membership at this meeting. Thanks, Lorne
